Due to its size, this article is divided into four sections, on pages 323-325 of vol. VIII, 372-394 of vol. X, 109-146 and 466-499 of vol. XIV. It constitutes a publication, in French, of part of the correspondence of the French Consuls in Crete from 1686 to 1730. Memoranda and reports of general interest are provided, giving an overview of the situation in Crete. The correspondence is in the French National Archives, Aff. Etr. B1. In Crete there was the Consulate at Chania, the Vice-Consulate at Khandax and the Agency at Rethymno. The correspondence in this section refers to the Turkish administration of the island and commerce, particularly olive oil and grain exports to France. Memorandum no. 13 includes a description of the Mesara and the Labyrinth of Gortyna in 1723.
