An examination of the architectural form of the ducal palace in Chandax, based on a number of representations from Venetian times, these being: a) a view of the town drawn by the traveller Francesco Buondelmonti in 1429; b) views of St. Mark’s Square and the Corpus Christi procession passing the ducal palace; a view of Chandax at the time of the plague in 1592-1595, included in the Klontzas codex in the Marcian Library; c) Werdmüller’s map of Chandax. The palace is recorded as ruined in 1815. It was most probably totally destroyed in the earthquake of 1856, along with many other of the town’s Venetian monuments. |
