| Publication of the report on the transactions of the Board of Governors of the Society of Cretan Historical Studies for 1958. During this time, efforts were made to overcome financial problems. The Nikos Kazantzakis Room was established, display work at the museum continued and the collections were enriched, as were the library and archives. Restoration work on Aghios Markos continued, and an illustrated volume on the church’s history, architecture and restoration was published. The Xanthoudides Folklore Contest was held, a publication by Stergios Spanakis was subsidised and lectures were organised. The bust of Nikos Kazantzakis was officially unveiled. Indexing of Kritovoulides’ Memoirs and part of Psilakis’ History was completed. The Society lost Agathaggelos Xirouchakis, one of its most prominent members. New members joined. |
