This article supplements the same author’s study entitled “Sphakian houses”, published in Kretika Chronika Vol. XI. It presents two houses in the villages of Ai Yiannis and Aghia Roumeli, and their morphological differences from the basic architectural types of Sphakian arched dwelling. These differences are attributed to the particular geophysical and economic conditions prevailing in the specific areas. The houses belonged to Nikos Yeorges and Pavlos Marinakis; both are possessed of the uncompromising austerity typical of buildings in the district of Sphakia. |
