Five wills made by Cretans were discovered in the notarial ledgers of Nikolaos and Frangiskos Velanos, which are held in the Venetian State Archive. Of their number, two are in Italian and three in Greek. They are the wills of: a) Georgios Vlachos, a noble, drawn up in Chandax in 1641; b) Sophia Stergianopoulou, widow of Konstantinos Grigoropoulos (Venice, 1668); c) Viola Perdikari from Rethymnon (Venice, 1670); d) Kalerga Kallergi, widow of the noble Marinos Kornaros (Venice, 1673); e) Emmanouil Pantouvas, priest and icon painter (Venice, 1691). Those drawn up in Greek are published in the original, while the others appear in full or part in Greek translation. |
