Publication of the report on the transactions of the Board of Governors of the Society of Cretan Historical Studies for 1957. During this time, efforts were made to overcome financial problems. The collections at the Historical Museum were enriched, as were the library and archives. Restoration work on Aghios Markos began. Cataloguing of place-name tables for the Cretan place-name dictionary continued. The Xanthoudides Folklore Contest was held and publications were subsidised. The Society assisted in the arrangements for the funeral of Nikos Kazantzakis, decided to dedicate a room in the museum to him and saw to the erection of a bust of the author. It also issued a formal statement of condolence on the death of Prince George. The Society lost Grigorios Zervoudakis and Androklis Xanthoudides, two of its most prominent members. New members joined. |
