| Publication of the Greek text of a printed circular issued by the Chania Local Council in July 1834, for the eradication of prostitution. The same text circulated simultaneously in the Turkish tongue. It was communicated to the American Consul. The contents are summarized on the document in English and Italian. The circular contains a sharp warning and announces the measures decided by the Chania Local Council for the control of affairs between Christian, Muslim and Jewish men and women with people of the same or other faiths. The circular was discovered in Chania and deposited in the Historical Museum of Crete. |
