Examination of historical circumstances in the 13th and 14th centuries, presenting evidence in favour of the hypothesis that the Lord of Patras in Erotocritos is not a Greek, but an Albanian or a Turk. On the basis of the Lord’s extremely barbaric behaviour, questions are raised as to Xanthoudides’ original theory that he is a Greek, but is portrayed as savage as a foil to Spidholion. Alexiou’s hypothesis that he may have been a Turk is seen as convincing, though the possibility of his being an Albanian is not excluded. |
