| Publication of the report on the transactions of the Board of Governors of the Society of Cretan Historical Studies for 1955. During this time, the collections of the Historical Museum were enriched and the painted cupola of the church of Panaghia Kardiotissa was put on display there. New material was also acquired for the library and archive, including the Stephanos Xanthoudides bequest and a cinema film of Eleftherios Venizelos. Work continued on cataloguing tables of place-names. The forthcoming restoration of the church of St Mark was provided for. A Venetian gate in Rethymnon was stabilised. Restoration work began on a 14th-century church containing wall paintings in Spilia, Kissamos. The Xanthoudides Folklore Contest was held and publications were subsidised. Photocopies of unpublished documents from the Venetian archives were acquired. Incomings and outgoings were limited. The members were notably active. |
