As G. Chatzidakis has observed, the dialects of Crete, the Peloponnese and the Cyclades comprise the phase of Modern Greek which gave rise to modern koine. For this reason many rare words found in works of Cretan literature are still preserved today in the Peloponnese. Some of these words, common to the Cretan idiom and that of Eleia, are examined here. These are the lexemes παμπώνω, σγομπιάζει, κορμοσκυλιάζω, κατάρθε, ταρναρίζω, καταμιτώνω, πετσώνω, ξεγκουσεμός, μπουκούνια, αλιάδα, σοφεγάδα, αφορμίζω, ντηρούμαι, βατσέλλι, κεντινάριν, κουτσούνα, σκουτέλι, μουρχούτα. |
