The archival collections of Mount Athos contain documents connected to Crete, mostly referring to dependencies of Athonite monasteries. A first nucleus of this archive material was discovered in Dionysiou Monastery. It consists of 12 documents dated between 1555 and 1704, concerning donations made to Dionysiou Monastery and a further donation to the church of Aghios Nikitas. The list of documents is provided and three of them are published: the deed of concession of the monastery of Kyra Kavalarea to Dionysiou Monastery (1581); the will of priest Konstantinos Tzelaites, bequeathing all his property to Kyra Kavalarea Monastery (1652); and a letter by the representative of Dionysiou Monastery who was sent to Crete as a trustee of the dependency in question (1678). |
