Publication in the Italian original and Greek translation of the will of Venetian-Cretan noble Andreas Kornaros, son of Jacobo, which was drawn up in Chandax in 1611 and is a typical example of osmosis between the Venetian and indigenous Greek Orthodox populations on the island. The substantial introduction preceding publication of the will examines the history of the Cretan branch of the Corner family from Venice, and investigates the possibility of identifying Vicenzos Kornaros, brother of the testator, with the poet of Erotocritos. The publication is accompanied by a detailed commentary. |
