A 17th-century engraving by the Venetian cartographer Marco Boschini depicts the Cretan Kakon Oros (“Evil Mountain”), which lies between the ancient city of Amnissos and the modern village of Gouves. The following parallel toponyms are found in archival and literary sources, as well as the modern bibliography: Kalon Oros (Good Mountain) in Crete, Alagia in Pamphylia, in the environs of Propontis and in Trebizond; Meganoros (Great Mountain) in Lefkada; Makrynoros (Long Mountain) and Spartonoros (Sown Mountain) in western Central Greece. |
