On the poem Synaxarion ton eugenikon gynaikon kai timiotaton archondisson (Synaxary of Noble Women and Most Honourable Ladies)
Summary PDF
The poem Synaxarion ton eugenikon gynaikon kai timiotaton archondisson (Synaxary of Noble Women and Most Honourable Ladies) is preserved in a 16th-century codex in the Collegio Greco of Rome. It was published in 1905 by Karl Krumbacher, who attempted a critical edition of the text. Some of his passages, however, are open to corrections and better readings. The language of the work is of particular interest. It is in 16th-century vernacular Greek, with forms and proverbial expressions which betray its Cretan origins. Following the poetic tradition of Stephanos Sachlikis, the anonymous poet of the Synaxary freely critcises female customs and the cultural context of the time.
