Curriculum vitae | Summary PDF | Ioannis Kalitsounakis was born in Chania in 1878. He completed his basic studies at the Faculty of Letters of the National University, and furthered his postgraduate studies in Germany. He taught Byzantine and Modern Greek Literature at the University of Berlin, and Classical Literature at the University of Athens. He also gave Greek lessons to Prince Alexander of Greece. During the First World War he was held in a camp for political prisoners. He was a founding member of the Academy of Athens and the Society of Cretan Studies, and President of the General Council of Libraries of Greece. He served the political interests of Greece abroad. He enjoys the respect and friendship of eminent Greek and foreign scholars. He is distinguished for his variety of interests and his literary and philosophical learning, as demonstrated by his well-stocked library and wealth of publications. |
