| Publication of the report detailing work by the Governing Board of the Society of Cretan Historical Studies in 1952. Activity focused on converting the building to house the museum, assembling museum collections and dealing with financial problems. Early Christian, Byzantine, Venetian and Turkish sculptures, inscriptions and tombstones are already on exhibit in the renovated building, while work is in progress on exhibiting the remaining collections. Provisions for the museum’s proposed administrative structure have also been drafted. Representative historical artifacts have been assembled thanks to grants from public bodies and private donations, as well as by purchases. At the same time, the library and archive are being established. Major efforts have been made to secure new financial resources and to raise public support for the entire undertaking. |
