| Publication of six of the letters collected by the Cretan scholar Georgios Kalyvas in what is now codex Vindobonensis theologicus graecus 227 of the Austrian National Library, Vienna, together with a series of brief theological treatises by the same author. The codex was written in the first half of the 16th century in the Sitia area, where Kalyvas was working as a priest, teacher and scribe. Its contents demonstrate the interest of the Cretan philologist and theologian in Classical studies, to which he was also attempting to introduce his student Iakovos. He also maintained contacts with a circle of scholars both in Crete and elsewhere. |
