During the first period of the Cretan Rising, the outcome of the struggle was determined both by the military operations of the general leader of the Rethymnon section Panos Koronaios, and by his disputes with the leaders of east Crete D. Petropoulakis and M. Korakas. The sidelines of the armed conflicts which took place from January to July 1867, ending in the insurgents' failure to oppose Omer's troops in Lassithi, are presented through letters exchanged by the fighters and the Athens Central Committee, the Committee of Cretans on Syros, the General Assembly and the Interim Government of Crete, as well as other political agents, comrades and friends. The material was drawn from the General State Archives and the Historical Archive of Crete. |
