Title
A Protogeometric miniature shrine in the Giamalakis Collection
Summary PDF
The Giamalakis Collection includes twenty vessels and a clay model of a miniature circular house or shrine, all produced by the same workshop and dated to the second half of the 10th century. Of particular interest is the miniature shrine, a model of a small sanctuary. The female figure within and the two male figures on the roof refer to the theme of the female deity between two male attendants. They may represent the main or only goddess of Late Minoan times and two sacred figures or secondary daemons. This is an early appearance of the Triad theme. The shrine model differs from Northern European and Oriental parallels.
