| The Patriarchs of Alexandria Gerasimos I Spartaliotes and Gerasimos II Palladas, two of the most important Cretan hierarchs and scholars of post-Byzantine times, were confused both as historical figures and as writers from as early as the 18th century. In order to restore the identity and chart the literary production of each man, the earlier bibliography is examined based on the biographical and literary information drawn from their published and unpublished works, their correspondence, the bibliographical notes of certain printed texts found in their ownership, and other literary and archive sources. This creates the right conditions to investigate their spiritual training, activities and ideological position. |
