The texts are: a) a letter from Gerasimos, Bishop of Knossos, presenting the dire financial situation of the bishops of the island; b) a report by the Metropolitan of Crete Maximos and the bishops of east Crete, asking the Patriarchate to intercede for the favourable amendment of the tax on spirits; c) a report by the bishops of east Crete concerning the problems caused by the arbitrary actions of the collector holding the rent for that tax; and d) a letter by the Metropolitan of Crete on his and the bishops’ inability to pay their annual dues.
