The Giamalakis Collection contains roughly 350 sealstones from every period of Minoan civilisation. The sealstones were mostly found at Malia, Knossos and other parts of central and east Crete, in tombs, palaces and houses. They are published separately, in categories according to date and shape. The first part of the study focuses on the Early Cretan sealstones in the collection, particularly the prismatic type, with a detailed catalogue indicating the provenance and shape of each, the material, dimensions, state of preservation, quality of workmanship and the subjects depicted on the seals, together with photographs of their imprints. Lastly, the decorative and representational cycles of the specific depictions are studied in the context of contemporary aesthetic taste. |
