A presentation of the actions of the Archaeological Service in Crete, the public bodies with which it collaborated and the difficulties it encountered, in 1948, for the opening of the Heraklion Museum, the exploitation of other museums and collections, the return of antiquities plundered from Crete by General Ringel, the opening up of the Labyrinth at Gortys, the excavations at Malia, Knossos and the Early Christian basilica of Panormo, archaeological finds, the discovery of Byzantine and Venetian monuments, and the execution of restoration work on archaeological sites, churches, monasteries, walls and other buildings. We are also informed of the preparation of a wide-ranging programme of restoration and tourist exploitation of all the archaeological sites and monuments in Crete as part of the Marshall Plan. |
