Publication of the Commemoration of the Martyrdom of the Ten Holy Martyrs, who were executed in Gortys in Crete during the persecution of the Emperor Decius (249-251 AD). The text, by the Presbyter of Constantinople Hesychius, is preserved in codex Neap. II bis 35 of the National Museum of Naples. It differs, mainly in the introduction, from the two other known versions of the same martyrdom: the 10th-century paraphrase by Symeon Metaphrastes, first published by Cornelius in 1755, and an anonymous paraphrase, also from the 10th century. The text is accompanied by textual and critical notes. |
