Aristotle’s Politics contains an extensive reference to the Cretan politeia, which is here given in a critical edition based not only on the manuscript variants (as in Teubner’s edition) but also on the corrections proposed by modern philologists and editors. The text is accompanied by an analytical commentary on Aristotle’s views, examined in conjunction with parallel excerpts from ancient authors such as Plato, Ephorus, Polybius, Herodotus, Strabo, Plutarch, Pausanias and Thucydides, as well as relevant epigraphical evidence.
