During the Revolt of Chairetis in 1841, certain items of plate and vestments from the church of the Eisodia tes Theotokou (Presentation of the Virgin) in Rethymnon were sent away from Crete. The proofs of receipt of these items by the merchant Nikolaos Chatzikonstantinou and the artist Alexios Petrides, together with the proofs of return, were entered in a ledger belonging to the schools of Rethymnon, probably by the Bishop of Rethymnon and Avlopotamos, Kallinikos. The receipts are published with extensive critical notes. |
