Michael Damaskenos was one of the leading Cretan artists of the late 16th century. The dowry he gave to his daughter Antonia consisted of gold and silver jewellery with precious stones, household wares and furniture, items of clothing and cloth for various uses in the home. Found in a ledger kept by the Ducal Secretariat of Chandax now held by the Venetian State Archive, the dowry deed was issued by the competent authorities of the Venetian administration on Crete to ratify the value of all the above property. The document is here published in the Italian original with a Greek translation and brief comments. |
