Prevelakis attempted to exploit biographical data relating to the artist yielded by research in Spanish and Italian archives, together with relevant Greek and foreign bibliography. His effort is criticized for weakness in its critical stance towards the source material, failure to correlate study of the artist’s biographical details with the form of his work, incomplete bibliography and inappropriate choices regarding publication. All of the above render the work a popularized compilation of biographical data on Theotocopoulos with limited pretensions to scholarship. |
